Admission and dress code

What each of the six houses asks at the door: minimum age, identification, entry fee and dress.

Minimum age

Each federal state sets its own rule. Baden-Württemberg admits guests only from 21. In Bavaria the minimum age to play is 21, and adults aged 18 to 20 may enter only when accompanied and may not play. In Berlin and Hesse the minimum age is 18.

This website itself is intended for readers aged 18 and over.

Identification

Photo ID is checked at the door of every Spielbank, and most venues register visitors at the entrance so that the nationwide exclusion list can be checked. A passport or national ID card is required. A driving licence is usually not accepted.

Entry fees

Many classic casinos charge a small admission fee for the table-game rooms.

What to wear

The classic gaming rooms of the historic casinos ask for smart attire, and the slot-machine areas are generally more relaxed. Each casino publishes its dress code on its own website.

  • Baden-Baden: a jacket is required for gentlemen in the classic rooms.
  • Bad Wiessee: a jacket is expected of gentlemen at the tables and can be borrowed at the cloakroom.
  • Bad Homburg: no shorts, T-shirts or trainers. An open-necked shirt is welcome and a loan jacket is kept at the door.
  • Wiesbaden: no jacket is required, but sportswear and shorts stay outside.
  • Lindau: smart casual.
  • Berlin: no formal dress code.

Opening times

These are the times we found published for each house. Check the venue before you travel, because hours change.

  • Berlin: open every day from 11:00 to 03:00, with roulette and blackjack from 17:00.
  • Bad Homburg: slot machines from midday until 4 a.m., and Ultimate Texas Hold’em every evening from 7 p.m.
  • Lindau: slot machines from noon, roulette and blackjack upstairs from 4 p.m., and poker at weekends.
  • Bad Wiessee: slot machines from midday and poker at weekends.
  • Baden-Baden: a guided tour runs in the morning, before the tables open. Blackjack runs on three tables from Sunday to Thursday and six on Friday and Saturday.
